Adaptec by PMC and Seagate to Showcase High Performance End-to-End 12Gb/s SAS Storage at IDF Beijing 2013

Sunnyvale, Calif.—April 8, 2013—PMC® (Nasdaq: PMCS), the semiconductor innovator transforming networks that connect, move and store big data, announced today that Adaptec® by PMC is collaborating with Seagate to showcase an end-to-end 12Gb/s SAS ecosystem storage solution as part of a full storage product portfolio the company is highlighting at IDF Beijing, on April 10-11, 2013.

The demonstration showcase first-to-market 12Gb/s SAS Raid on Chip (ROC) silicon using PMC's 16 port SRCv 12GB/s silicon (PMC PM8063) in a low profile MD2 form factor card. This configuration supports full 8 lane PCIe Gen3 bandwidth for simultaneous internal and external SAS/SATA device connectivity, showing sequential and random workloads. The adapter is connected to Seagate 12Gb/s SAS enterprise-class SSDs installed in a Chenbro 12 Gb/s 2U rackmount chassis.

"PMC’s production-level 12Gb ROCs, expanders, and controllers have been shipping to our tier-1 system storage and server customers since November 2012,” said Derek Dicker, vice president of enterprise storage solutions at PMC. “PMC has a time-to-market advantage in sampling of our production-ready expanders, ROCs, and IOCs, and these solutions will enable our customers to get to market more quickly with this more mature/robust product.”

High Performance, High Availability in Data Center Solution

A lineup of 1U RM136 and 2U RM236 can accommodate 4 bays, 8 bays, and 12 bays hot-swap hard drives and thermally perform well under the heavy operation in the crowded data center. The RM136 features its horizontal 6Gb/s SAS or SATA backplane for a smoother air flow, while users can further configure the middle fans with those of 28mm, 48mm, or 56mm thickness depending on the server circumstance. The RM236 features its air flow management and hot-swap middle fans that not only enhance the air circulation inside a server but minimize the server downtime required.

NR407, first a custom model which has been highly praised by customers, utilizes its top-load hot-swap hard drive bays and thus provides a storage capacity up to 144TB in high availability, making it ideal for data consolidation. The two-piece top cover and modular backplane tray design facilitate the components’ substitution of a server, while the side handles and full travel ball bearing rails ensure a smooth and solid support for on-site maintenance.

PC314 is sturdy but light. With a spacious internal space, it is easy to assemble the motherboard and inherits the excellent thermal support for Intel^® Sandy Bridge and Ivy Bridge platforms from its ancestor models. The PC314 is very simple in outlook and flexible in configuration - the hole-less front bezel design makes it to look tidy and solid; the 3 x 3.5” and 1 x 2.5” hard drive support can optimize the system hard drive configuration, which is particularly attractive for system integrators intending to build their 2.5” hard drive green models.

Chenbro RM24100 and RM24200: Flexible and Reliable IPC Chassis

Taipei, Taiwan—February 19, 2013—Chenbro today unveils two 2U 18” industrial server chassis RM24100 and RM24200 that feature flexibility, reliability, and easy maintenance for surveillance and other versatile applications in the industries.

Industrial servers mainly bear missions of process control and data acquisition in a plant. Usually 19-inch rackmount form factor and the equipped motherboards size always differ, they are considered more rugged and with more diverse configurations than typical servers. Furthermore, a short depth design can take advantage as they are often placed in a small cabinet or a crowded control room.

The RM24100 can accommodate an ATX motherboard and equip one 5.25” and one 3.5” exposed drive bays and two 3.5” and two 2.5” internal drive bays. The front-located power supply unit provides the maximum space for high-spec motherboard installation, and the 3-slot full height or 7-slot low profile modular rear window allows installation of more add-on cards for more functionality. Two-piece front door is optional and with detachable air filter.

The RM24200, on the other hand, can accommodate a Micro ATX motherboard and 4 expansion slots on the rear window. The built-in three drive cages in front supply rooms for one slim ODD and one 5.25” external bay, one 3.5” and one 5.25” external bays, and two 2.5” internal bays, respectively, which delivers the maximized configuration flexibility and makes RM24200 ideal for users with more storage and backup demands. Two-piece front door is optional and with detachable air filter.

RM24100 and RM24200 use a delicate in-line layout of components which has been analyzed by a series of sophisticated computation. As a result, one 80mm front fan and one 80mm rear fan can easily satisfy the ventilation needs of RM24100 and RM24200, respectively. Surely, there are optional fans for higher thermal issues. Besides, all the hard drive holders are anti-vibration cushion attached to ensure the reliability of these systems.

The company is not just big and well-organized, it has achieved many milestones since its establishment in 1983—launched the world’s first PC tower case in 1986, the first server case in 1992, the first convertible desktop/tower case in 1994 and conducted ODM/OEM businesses for international brands like IBM, HP, Dell for many years. The company went public in 2005 and has been listed on Taiwan Stock Exchange ever since.What are the keys for CHENBRO’s success? The following is an excerpt of the interview with Ms. Chen:

Q: CHENBRO started businesses in the international trade field. Now, it has focused on PC/server chassis manufacturing and become the first three largest chassis manufacturer in Taiwan. How do you explain your company’s success?

A: As a professional chassis manufacturer, we don’t just produce and sell chassis; on the other hand, we provide our customers a total solution from design, mechanics, manufacturing to marketing & sales. Our customers can always see our great efforts in every part of our solutions. We have a very high standard for every product we made. CHENBRO is also an ISO9001, 9002, and 14001 certified company that continuously delivers high-quality products through strict product design and manufacturing process. Our core value and competence is providing fully integrated mechanical solutions for system integrators and OEM customers in satisfying their time-to-market and time-to-profit benefits.

Q: Would you please be specific for the “great efforts” you mean?

A: In the chassis industry, I can say that we are one of the few companies that invest a wealth of resources in research and development. Thirty percent of our employees are in the R&D department, conducting electronics, mechanics and testing research. We are now able to design electronic components independently, and thus, own the ability for electrical-electronic integration. Our strong R&D capabilities enable us to co-work with our customers, who are normally international enterprises, to meet their special needs. The latest successful case is to assist a world’s famous 3D movie to establish the relevant solutions. To enhance the company's bottom line, we build all our moulds almost exclusively in-house to tightly control quality. In addition, we set up our own testing labs for shock, vibration, EMI, and thermal flow tests to respond to customers' real-time requests for relevant test reports.

Q: Would you please share your plans for the company?

A: We like to share a slogan with our business friends: “Intel Inside, CHENBRO outside”. We aim to become the world’s leading enclosure solution provider, and step in different application fields such as the medical treatment and the army. Capitalizing on the opportunities presented by cloud computing, we have also launched several new products to the market. Despite the economic downturn, we maintain a profitable business and garner 110 million U.S. dollars of revenue in 2009. The sales in 2010 has been rising sharply. We are very positive towards our future growth and development.
