History

  • In 1998, PlaNet Finance was founded by Jacques Attali and Arnaud Ventura
  • In 2015, PlaNet Finance is renamed Positive Planet.

Mission of Positive Planet

  • The initial mandate of the NGO was to fight poverty through the development of microfinance 5
  • In 20 years, financial inclusion has turned 6 : a series of small initiatives, it has become a large-scale movement offering financial services and non-financial.
  • Having developed its experience in financial inclusion , which remains an important part of its activity, Positive Planet has also for several years been conducting projects focused on entrepreneurship 7 , financial education 8and the organization of value chains.

The Foundation

Positive Planet is organized under a Foundation recognized by public utility 9 and made up of 3 entities: the international NGO Positive Planet since 1998, Positive Planet France since 2006 and the Positive Economy Forum since 2012 10 .

In order to finance the various projects of the NGO Positive Planet, the Foundation organizes several events during the year including the Positive Cinema Week at the Cannes Film Festival, the Positive Planet Awards as well as various gala dinners and lunches.

Positive Cinema Week

Positive Cinema Week highlights a cinema that inspires future generations. It brings together directors, actors and personalities of the humanitarian sector and the world of cinema to discuss how cinema can raise awareness and make people want to change the world 11 . A series of discussions is also organized during the Positive Cinema Week roundtables that bring together directors, actors, journalists and business leaders at the Palais des Festivals in Cannes.

Positive Planet Awards

Each year, in December, the Positive Planet Awards recognize the determination and courage of entrepreneurs around the world. At this unmissable meeting of the positive economy, several awards, presented by Positive Planet’s ambassadors and partner companies, distinguish solidarity initiatives around the world. This is an opportunity to celebrate the commitment of everyone in the positive economy, around a committed artist, who comes to perform a musical performance.

The NGO Positive Planet

Positive Planet, formerly known as PlaNet Finance 12 , is an international anti-poverty organization whose mission is to help people develop income-generating activities independently. The NGO offers advisory services and technical assistance to microfinance stakeholders, as well as socio-economic integration programs for the poorest populations. Positive Planet is present in 39 countries (Asia, Africa, Latin America, Europe, Middle East) 13 .

PlaNet Finance share the values of the Millennium Development Goals of the United Nations and works on triggers, on the ground, a dynamic development.

In total, nearly 250 employees participate in the implementation of projects mainly in rural or semi-rural areas from representative offices (Burkina Faso, Armenia, Uganda, Madagascar, Zambia, Paraguay, Chile, Egypt). , Côte d’Ivoire, Myanmar, Tunisia, Lebanon, China), regional offices (Paris, Cairo, Dakar, Johannesburg) and affiliated offices (London, Tokyo, Mumbai, New York) 14 .

Market Access

Establish a strong and lasting link between small producers, whether artisans or farmers, and the market: it is for this purpose that Positive Planet structures inclusive value chains. These responsible production chains aim to increase producers’ production and added value, while bringing long-term economic benefits to companies and institutions that support this approach.

Access to financial services

Provide access to credit for the poorest people to create sustainable activities. Build agile, rigorously managed, and profitable microfinance institutions. Strengthen existing ones by helping them expand their offering and their client portfolio. Help commercial banks develop a microfinance offer for a population whose income is growing year by year. And in any case, use the lever of new technologies to increase productivity and expand the service offer.

Access to entrepreneurship

Entrepreneurship is the first response to the high unemployment rate for decades in some regions. Because creating your business is also creating your job, Positive Planet wants to help those at the bottom of the pyramid who are motivated to start. It gives them the intellectual means to manage their business, supports them in the design of their project, supports their start-up, helps them to access financing, and ensures, by accompanying them in the long term, their autonomous development.

Positive Economy Forum

Positive Economy Forum 15 was created in 2012 to incubate innovative ideas and approaches for the development of a responsible, just and sustainable economy. 16 This concept is based on several publications and educational and awareness-raising events. 17

In France, through its network of associations located in the heart of troubled neighborhoods Positive Planet France 18 , led by Sylvaine Falque, supports people far from employment wanting to realize their business project. 19
